Q. Where can I find an ice sculptor who can create a personalized sculpture for my reception?

A. Phoenix-based Armitage Ice can create anything from sculptures engraved with the couple’s names to liquor luges sure to amaze your guests.

“Most couples these days aren’t looking for the classic lovebirds or Cupids for their sculptures,” says owner Mark Armitage. “Most are customized with names or personalized to fit their personalities. I’ve done a lot of Indian weddings where I made a sculpture of Ganesha [a well-known Hindu deity]. We can create nearly any sort of design to reflect who the couple is.”

Armitage starts with a 300-pound block of ice and uses a variety of tools—think chainsaws and chisels—to carve the design. He can incorporate color into parts of the sculpture if requested, and add color later with a lighted display. The piece is then boxed and delivered to the couple’s reception site. Prices range from $300 to $800 per sculpture.
