Find the wedding musicians who hit all the right notes.

Planning your wedding is no easy task; like many wedding-related duties, choosing live music takes patience and planning as you seek professionals who fit your personality and overall wedding style.

“Live music at your event gives your guests a much more personal connection to your reception,” says Dan Crawford of The Hamptons, an “all-inclusive band” whose repertoire ranges from cocktail jazz to current hits. “There is a certain energy and excitement that you can only get with live music. Live music will make your reception stand out above the rest.”

“The research process should begin as soon as possible,” says Crawford. Start by looking online and get referrals through other vendors such as event planners and caterers. Ask family and friends for recommendations, too.

“You have to feel comfortable with your vendors,” say violist Jennifer DeWitt and guitarist Rich Mancini of String Serenade, who offer a mix of classical and contemporary music through duos, trios and string quartets. “In the end, you have to connect.” The musicians you choose should also complement the style of the ceremony and reception. Classical music won’t work for a casual ceremony, just as a rock band isn’t the right fit for a formal reception.
