Plus-Size Bridal Gown Shop
Strut Bridal Salon caters to Arizona brides sizes 12 and up.

Q. I’m a plus-size bride and having a hard time shopping for a dress. Are there any local shops with a good selection?

A. Shopping for your wedding gown should be a fun, feel-good experience, but that can be tricky when every dress in the store is a size 10. Enter Strut, a fashionable new boutique in Phoenix catering to average- and plus-size gals. One of only five plus-size bridal stores in the country, Strut is quickly becoming the go-to gallery for your fabulous wedding-day frock.

In March 2009, Ann Campeau—now Strut co-owner—was planning a trip down the aisle; but she found it nearly impossible to find bridal stores with sample sizes that were large enough. The process was so frustrating she decided to open her own shop, catering to curvaceous ladies—who happen to make up the majority of American women. “A size 16 is the average size of a woman in the U.S.,” she notes. Campeau and her associates all have average to larger body types, so they’re familiar with dressing Rubenesque frames and know what styles will work on which figures.

Nestled in a trendy neighborhood near downtown Phoenix, Strut boasts an urban yet classic feel. Other perks include spacious fitting rooms, and options for all budgets—prices range from $399 to $2,499. Since they’ve opened, Campeau says they’ve seen every type of bride, from young couples to vow renewals: “It was eye-opening to see the need for this,” she says.
