Ideas & Inspiration
1. Embellishments
“Embellishments can make a simple invitation unique and memorable,” explains Jill Lenius, owner of Ali Ink. Whether it’s a sprinkling of rhinestones to add sparkle, a contrasting belly-band (that strip of paper that goes around an invitation) or a boxed presentation, a simple embellishment can make a big statement. 2. Bold Colors
Brides are ditching the stoic white invitation in favor of bright, bold colors that reflect their personality and set the tone for their wedding day. “Receiving something beautiful and elaborate in the mail makes your guests want to see what’s next,” says Megan Pezzelle, owner of So Inviting in Queen Creek. “If the couple isn’t beige then their wedding shouldn’t be either,” she says.
3. Postcards
As your guest list grows, remember that each invitation requires not only enough postage to mail the invite itself, but the return postage on your RSVP card also. Anne Patterson-James, owner of Paper Soirée, recommends using postcards in lieu of formal response cards and envelopes. Postage is less expensive and they add less weight to the overall invitation. Another bonus: Postcards reduce waste. Postcards also make a great option for save-the-date cards, Lenius adds, again saving money and eliminating waste. Ali Ink
4. Handmade Papers
“Textured handmade papers from India, Egypt, Japan, China, Turkey and elsewhere add a tactile element to an invitation,” says Joanie Guidry, owner of Paper Crazy in Phoenix. The craftsmanship of handmade papers lends an elegant touch to any invitation, even if the paper is brightly colored or patterned.
5. Bellpress Printing
Bellpress printing should carry a disclaimer: No paper was harmed in the printing of this invitation at Celebrations in Paper. This relatively new printing method has made its way to the United States and uses a softer synthetic die-form and less printing pressure than traditional engraving. The lighter touch leaves no bruise on the back of the paper, protecting delicate handmade papers or fun textured ones like this green crocodile paper. The crocodile invite takes green to a new level through its partnership with Carbonfund.org, which supports projects that play a vital role in offsetting and absorbing CO2 emissions.
6. Pockets
Pockets are the hottest trend in invitations right now. What makes them so cool? “Our customers are excited about the contemporary and organized look of pockets,” says Paper Crazy’s Guidry. Pocket-adorned invites are Lenius’ most popular invitation style, too. “Guests will appreciate being able to keep all information neatly together,” she says. Ali Ink
