Sarah & Art
October 10, 2010 at a private residence in Phoenix

There is nothing like hiking rim-to-rim-to-rim for 41.8 miles in the Grand Canyon for 36 hours to seal the deal. After completing the intense trip, Sarah Selzer and Art Hinshaw knew they were meant to be. Both enthusiastic adventurists and lawyers, the pair got engaged at an outlook over a canyon a few months after their Grand Canyon experience. Art had originally planned on proposing on a rafting trip, but their fellow rafters ruined the mood. Their October backyard wedding was a personalized collaboration involving the help of several friends, including the friend who introduced them acting as officiant. Rather than walk down the aisle separately they walked in hand-in-hand and instead of a wedding party and the Seven Blessings (a Jewish tradition), Sarah and Art had seven friends give readings or blessings. They also gave back on their wedding day by exchanging wedding bands from Clarity Project, which incorporates recycled metals and diamonds from a women's mining cooperative, and by asking for donations to a local food bank instead of registering for gifts.
