Karine & Andrew
Nov. 9, 2009 at Foxboro Ranch Estates in Flagstaff
Andrew Nolte proposed to Karine Sterner, his college sweetheart, on a black-sand beach in Hawaii, but the wedding planning wasn’t quite as picture-perfect. The couple, who have been together for 10 years, had originally planned to marry in early 2008 on Big Island where Karine grew up, but the airline that was to fly many guests to the wedding went belly-up. They set a new date in April, but it didn’t jibe with their work schedules; they cancelled their next date in October, too, when a bridesmaid couldn’t make it. The couple was relieved when they moved the locale to Flagstaff and set a November date that worked for everyone—that is, until their original venue changed ownership and dropped their contract, and they were back to square one. Photographer Sarah Neal saved the day: She had recently shot another wedding at Foxboro Ranch Estates, and recommended it to the couple, who fell in love with the pastoral feel. The couple finally said their vows and celebrated with an intimate cocktail reception and 45 guests—with the bridesmaid dresses and a cake topper meant for their original Hawaiian wedding. They tempered the tropical palette with hot cocoa, autumn-hued décor, and hurricane glasses filled with Kona coffee.
