Erica & Justin

Oct. 17, 2009 at Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale

Justin LeBlang popped the question almost perfectly to Erica Kloner, his girlfriend of four years. On an ice-climbing trek through Alaska’s Prince William Sound, he paused amid a spectacular clearing and asked her to be his wife. The only problem? Justin was too nervous to bring the diamond sparkler he’d purchased into the wilderness. After she said “yes,” a quick-thinking guide made an impromptu band out of orange rope to slip on Erica’s finger. While the proposal was au naturel, the swanky, Rat Pack-inspired nuptials at Scottsdale’s Hotel Valley Ho were anything but. The bridal party donned feathers and fedoras, the supper club-style table settings popped with bright-red linens and roses, and a cigar roller prepared stogies for 150 guests while a sax/piano duo played old-school jazz. The ceremony did, however, echo the couple’s backwoods romance in one way: They sealed their vows with the same orange-rope ring that Justin used to propose.
